Raee Lorton is a Pasadena based illustrator and the owner/designer of Crag To Crux (C2C), a female focused brand that creates stickers, pins, and apparel inspired by the rock climbing community. Her style is a blend of abstract, nuanced Americana and incorporates elements of vintage pin-up designs to represent strength and femininity.

Combining her artistic prowess with her background in environmental science, Raee aims to use Crag to Crux as a platform to advance the discussion on mental health awareness. By working with non-profits and other climbing brands, she also hopes that C2C can help to create more sustainable climbing products, provide for crag/park restoration, and raise awareness for the protection of climbing landscapes.

With a whopping 334 official votes, Raee's design was the top finisher in our Summer Series design contest in March 2019. We're honored to bring her design to life and to help her advance Crag To Crux.

The Artist: Sebastian Eisenberg (Antwerp, Belgium)

Sebastian Eisenberg is a California-born illustrator and graphic designer currently working out of Antwerp, Belgium. He is one-third of Millihelen Design, a creative studio in Antwerp he founded with his partner, Lara and their their 11-year-old Border Collie / Lab mix named Mies.

Sebastian traces his artistic roots back to his Grandfather, who (among a multitude of other trades) hand-embroidered denim for his own apparel company. From a very young age, his Grandfather's designs inspired Sebastian to create. Initially driven by a desire to create custom skate decks, he fell in love with skate and street art culture in college. With stencils, spray paint, and other mixed media, Sebastian began to explore his artistic identity.

After pursuing a variety of other passions, Sebastian eventually came back to art when he quit his job(s) managing two restaurants to go back to grad school.

The Design: "Summer Butts"

In Sebastian's words, "This design exposes the very thing it is hiding. The simplicity of the line work is a quirky, modern take on classic American patterns. Each butt has its own story and showcases a distinct personality. I was inspired by the human form and how regardless of shape or size, people are inherently interesting to look at. I also wanted to draw something that was unassuming from a distance and then brought a 'cheeky' smile to your face at closer inspection."

Sebastian's design was a crowd favorite from the moment he entered it into our Summer Series design contest in March 2019. Generating over 250 votes, it was clear that this design was a winner - no ifs, ands, or "Butts" about it!

The Charity: Skateistan (New York, NY)

Skateistan is a New York based international NGO that empowers children through skateboarding and education in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa. Through skateboarding clinics, educational programs, and community outreach, their programs help to connect kids and families with important social services. They aim to teach underprivileged kids confidence and self-expression, and to help create healthy communities around recreation and education.

As a lover of skateboarding, Sebastian chose to support Skateistan with his design because, as he explained, "I see how great the sport, the community, and the culture can be for young kids. Skateistan does an amazing job bringing not only skateboarding but also education to disadvantaged areas in 3rd world countries. I really respect their mission and I hope the sales from my bandana can help them make a difference!
